Thermal and flammability behavior of walnut shell reinforced epoxy composites

In this study, walnut shell particles obtained through the grinding of shells were used as a reinforcing material and pumice powder filler for developing epoxy-based composites characterized by reduced flammability. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Underwriters Laboratories (UL)-94 vertical tests carried out evaluating effectiveness these treatments. Under UL-94 test, (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 S6) with 20% (i.e., mass content not self-extinguished, could be classified. S7 S8 (40wt% 50%) assigned V-2 rating, which was least flammable composite However, mechanical tensile showed that treated increased their strength. The morphological an enhancement interfacial adhesion achieved powder.
